چکیده

I t is a common observation of dairymen that the milk flow of the dairy cow rises for some time after calving and then declines steadily. In preceding papers 1 we have presented data and have offered an interpretation for the declining segment of the curve of milk secretion. Having found that after the first month of lactation the curve of milk secretion with the advance of the period of lactation may be represented by the exponential law representing the course of monomolecular change in chemistry, we suggested the interpretation that the course of milk secretion is wobably limited by a monomolecular chemical reaction. This interpretation seemed reasonable in view of the fact that milk secretion must be a chemical or physicochemical process since certain substances typical of blood are converted into other different substances typical of milk. The initial rise of milk secretion, on which no data were available at that time, was explained as due to the improving condition of the animal and to the increasing food consumption due to the improved condition. However, a comparison of the curve of food consumption with the curve of milk secretion does not show the expected parallelism, ~ and the condition of the animal appears to become normal within a short t ime after calving which is long before maximum milk secretion is reached. These facts suggest that under favorable conditions of food and management the factors limiting or controlling the characteristic rise and

Association of milk yield and body condition score indices with the commencement of luteal activity after parturition in high producing dairy cows

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relation between different indices of milk yield andbody condition score (BCS) with the commencement of the luteal activity (C-LA) during the postpartumperiod in high producing dairy cows. Seventy-one multiparous healthy (free of detectable reproductivedisorders) Holstein dairy cows (mean peak milk yield = 56.7 ± 7.4 kg) were used in the prese...

The effect of vaccination on titres of antibody to rotavirus in colostrum and milk.

The continued presence of antibody to rotavirus in the gut of the neonatal ruminant has been shown to be important in protecting against clinical disease associated with rotavirus infections. This effect is dependant upon the amount of antibody included in the diet. Titres of antibody to rotavirus may be relatively high in ruminant mammary secretions immediately after parturition but decline ra...

IL-8 May Be the Target of Arsenic in Human Breast Milk

Background and Aims: The critical aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of breast-milk contamination with Nickel and Arsenic, as well as aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) on the milk levels of IL-6 and IL-8.  Materials and Methods: Breast milk was collected from 76 mothers on the 30th day post-parturition and milk levels of AFM1, Nickel, Arsenic, IL-6 and IL-8 were evaluated. Results: The results s...

Folate nutrition in the kid.

I. A study was made on the folate content of goat’s milk in relation to stage of lactation, and on the interrelationship between blood and milk folate concentrations in the dam and in the kid. 2. In seven goats the folate concentration in the colostrum at parturition ranged from 136 to 300 ng/ml, and averaged 205 ng/ml. The concentration fell sharply during the early days of lactation and by da...

Effect of Bromocryptine on hormones and milk secretion in Murrah buffaloes ( Bubalus bubalis).

An experiment was carried out on 10 advance pregnant Murrah buffaloes to determine the role of hormones in milk secretion around parturition. Experimental animals were administered with a single injection of bromocryptine, @ 100 μg/kg BW, for 5 days before expected calving, whereas control group buffaloes were injected with placebo injections. Blood samples collected before parturition (-5,-4,-...
